The design for this piece began with a need to conceal a later installation of air conditioning. We concealed new ductwork behind the pillar forms in the piece and evolved the design around this. The result was a wonderfully powerful installation in walnut, stone and glass. -
The Scarab beetle design was chosen by the homeowner because of its symbolism in Ancient Egypt. Each color of the imported glass was carefully chosen to match the color of the granite top and backsplash, and to pick up the rich tomes in the Walnut wood. The doors of the base cabinets are gently curved to follow the radius of the overall piece.
